Upgrade ROM for HTC Trinity/P3600i

Guys,

Anyone of you are jealous to see features of WM6.1/6.2 or even 6.5? When i read through one of the local magazine, i got attracted to one of WM6.2 features which is the threaded sms. from that point i search through the factory for my HTC3600i or globally known as Trinity black edition. Unfortunately, the rom upgrade its not available from factory side. come to my mind that my warranty already expired, so im doing a little DIY to my HTC. Below is the guide line taken from various sides eg. xda developers and many more.

Flashing tutorial

OK first of all I've put this together hastily so forgive me for slight errors, but most of this should be fine.

To flash your P3600i, there are 3 things that should concern you: HardSPL, the Radio, and the ROM.

  1. HardSPL: something that allows you to run unsigned code on your phone (e.g. ROMs), and also provides protection in case it screws up. This is the first thing you do. (This is probably a shit explanation, but functional at least?)
  2. Radio: I guess more like a mini feature set, I know there was something similar when I had a Motorola phone which was called a flex. In this case it's not a whole new operating system, but perhaps easily thought of as small tweaks made to improve the system without necessitating a whole ROM flash. Why have a radio when a ROM could take care of everything? Well the advantage of a radio is that you can flash these without resetting everything. Everything (contacts, etc.) remain intact.
  3. ROM: What you're really after, WM6.1 and the lovely cooked ROMs that should soon be available for flashing. This will wipe everything on your phone, so back your stuff up (contacts, settings, owner info, messages, etc.).

Flashing procedure:

IF YOU HAVE VISTA:
You need to update your drivers. Go here for instructions. You can then proceed with the procedure as per normal.

The basic procedure is this. Flash HardSPL first, then update your Radio, then finally, your ROM.

This HardSPL is for P3600i. Get it here.
Radio for P3600i. Get it here. (N.B. Radio link updated to v1.56.70.11 - 2 Aug 2008)
I recommend using this ROM. Get it here. Please save postinstall folder to memCard before install.

Please backup all your data using any of backup software. I recommended to use PIM Backup V2.8. Get it here.

Lets start!

HardSPL installation
While connecting your phone to the activeSync (PC) via USB, open the HardSPL folder and double click ROMupdateutility.exe. Click through next until finish. At the first time, you will get unsuccesful installation. But your phone appear in tri colour display.

Do no off the phone or reset it. Close HardSPL, disconnect USB from phone and wait for few seconds. with the display in tri colour mode, connect back your phone via USB and restart the HardSPL by double click the ROMupdateutility. Follow instruction and finish the installation. Progress bar will be appear at both of your PC and phone display. and then, it automaticly reset.

Install Radio
All the step is the same as HardSPL, its just the phone must be set in tri color mode (bootloader mode) to bootload, press and hold power button, camera button and point your stylus for hard reset simulteneously. Then, after get tricolour mode, connect your phone to USB and double click ROMupdateUtility.exe in Radio folder.

Follow the instructions until you get progress bar display and phone is automaticly reset to finish the installation.

Before installing ROM, there is a few tips that need to be done. Some of the ROMs available in the net is not compatible with P3600i. The easiest way to identify is using hex translator to view the SUU_signed.nbh. get it here.

Use this software to open SUU_signed.nbh and look carefully for 04 in line 6/7/8. if appear 00 04, change 00 to 01. so, final figure is 01 04.

After changes are being made, save the file to the same folder.

Install ROM
Same step as Radio Installation. In tricolour mode, install the ROM by double clicking the ROMupdateutility in ROM folder.

And last, your phone are now refresh with a new look and updates.
